Members of Derby Raynet went along recently on a visit to the Network Rail Signalling Centre Derby. The visit included a tour around the control rooms and a description of how the signalling systems work. Members saw trains being directed across the network and were told how the different types of train are passed a long the rail system. We then had an in depth demonstration of the different types of trains and loads, and we were also shown how a simple delay in one area can have a knock-on effect to the whole system. We got to know quite a lot about a signalling system that deals with our rail traffic everyday of the year. All attending members enjoyed the evening and our thanks go to Network Rail for the visit.
