Helping Derbyshire and Areas Communicate in Times of Need

Derby Raynet which was formerly known as Derbyshire Raynet has been in existence since 1974 and has continually been involved in providing communications for many different occasions. Our activities are mainly based on providing emergency communications backup and support to the User Services such as Police, Fire, Ambulance and others we are also involved with other training activities. There is still a need to provide radio communications in times of emergency crisis and natural disasters, amateur radio is often the only means of communication when telephone, cell phones and other conventional means of communications have failed.

All of our members are able to operate their radio equipment without the reliance of a mains electricity supply and can be fully portable and mobile if required. When called upon to assist, Derby Raynet members will turn out often at short notice to any part of Derbyshire and the surrounding areas, to provide the necessary communications links for the safety of these events, our members are always willing to be of assistance when the need arises and we always look forward to a good challenge.

We operate the Ofcom issued group call sign G0FAY at events such as charity sponsored walks, runs and cycle rides, this makes good training and practice exercises. Our group and its members are affiliated the RSGB and are insured should the need become necessary. Derby Raynet is by far the largest and most active voluntary emergency radio communications group in Derbyshire and is an entirely voluntary group of local Radio Amateurs. We have recently again increased our membership and have no funding other than donations and a small annual subscription from its membership. At our disposal are a wide range of experienced people equipment and vehicles. A recent addition is a brand new bespoke Mobile Control Room purchased specially for this purpose, and is fully self contained and on standby 24 hrs a day to allow us to be prepared for any occasion. Indeed we are proud never to have let anybody down when asked to cover an event with safety communications.
